Internship

Mutlu Battery Industry Co.

I completed my summer training at Mutlu Battery Industry Co., a member of Metair Investments Limited. Metair manages an international portfolio of companies that manufacture and supply automotive components, and energy storage solutions for local and export automotive and industrial markets. I was in the project management team at the research and development department. I was responsible for the implementation of the project management strategies including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing. Moreover, I got trained in effective leaders' characteristics, understanding of emotional intelligence, developing a positive attitude, soft skills, and developing effective communication skills. I presented my projects to the managers.

Zorlu Textile Trade and Industry Co.

Zorluteks Textile’s home textile production facilities consist of four factories: weaving & knitting, finishing, and two separate sewing plants. The Company is Europe’s biggest integrated manufacturer of cotton textiles for the home. I was a research and development intern in Zorlu Textile. We aimed to do research on cutting-edge information about the textile industry. I contributed to on-going main projects of the r&d center. It was predicted to use Phase change materials (PCMs), a substance that is capable of storing and releasing a large amount of energy. I focused on the PCM in the textile industry. Printing material and yarn were developing to provide thermoregulation which is a process that allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. I contributed to the energy cost reduction project. Existing methods were based on the optimization of manufacturing processes, and was lack of considering the entire factory system. Additionally, they were based on a detailed quantitative analysis of processes, and thus, they needed a high effort during the phase of data acquisition. We developed solutions to solve problems for data mining. I worked on data mining tools to assist the textile industry and allow enterprises to predict future trends.

TAT Food Industry Co.

Tat Gıda Sanayi A.Ş. SEK Dairy Plant serves its customers with an understanding of continuing quality from milk production stages up to the table. I received projects for studying during my internship from the lead engineer in the quality department. The first one was the six sigma project which means a measure of quality that strives for near perfection. I worked on Six Sigma, disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving toward six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service. Secondly, I made the quality engineering for the packaging. I tried to solve the opening difficulties and challenged the package for more ease of use and less material.  Hence, it caused less cost. I calculated the cost of integration of the new project to the production line, improvements in the production line were discussed. A suggestion form I wrote for this project got credit and I won the suggestion box this month at the factory.
